High Resolution lunar images – September 2015

During four mornings at the beginning of September 2015 I had the very rare pleasure of excellent seeing conditions while imaging the Moon.

For now, in this post, I will only show four mosaics, made on the mornings of September 4 and 5. The instrument was the 14″ (355mm diameter) F/5 homemade Newtonian, a Baader 2.25x Barlow lens, a red filter, and the ASI120MM-S camera. Seeing conditions varied from 7/10 to 8-9/10. Fantastic views were visible both at the eyepiece (at 370x) and on the laptop screen The resolution on the images is around 600 meters(!!!) but some 300-400 meter Rimae are visible also.

For now, I will present only the first processing versions, with the more in-depth ones on a much later date (I still have to figure out a few processing tricks, since I never had lunar images as good as these in terms of resolution).

So, the images:

Clavius area:

Ptolemaeus, Alphonsus and Arzachel:

Ina volcano and Hadley Rille:

Ina_Hadley_Maximilian_Teodorescu Vallis Alpes, Eudoxus, Aristoteles and Cassini:

More images and larger versions will be posted here soon. I hope…

  2. Excelent !

Stay tuned!

  3. […] a previous post I’ve presented some HR (high resolution) lunar images acquired at the beginning of September […]
